Grüne Welle Kommunikation Offers an AI-Powered Greenwashing Scanner for Corporate Communications

Published on August 24, 2026, by Frank Brodmerkel

A specialized tool automatically verifies sustainability claims for compliance with the EmpCo guidelines—and provides prioritized recommendations for action.

München, 25. August 2026. Starting September 27, 2026, unspecific environmental claims in advertising in Germany will be subject to cease-and-desist letters. The EmpCo Directive (EU 2024/825), which has already been transposed into German law (3rd Amendment to the Unfair Competition Act), presents companies of all sizes with the urgent task of reviewing their entire sustainability communications. Grüne Welle Kommunikation is now providing an AI-powered analysis tool for this purpose: the Greenwashing Scanner.

Automatic Detection – Channel-Independent and Source-Based

The Greenwashing Scanner, developed by Grüne Welle Kommunikation, uses specialized AI to automatically identify sustainability claims in various communication formats—on websites, in corporate documents, press releases, and packaging designs. The identified statements are then cross-referenced against a structured knowledge database that compiles official legal sources from the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as relevant court rulings on environmental advertising.

The result is a structured risk report: clearly organized, prioritized according to the need for action, and accompanied by specific recommendations. For each problematic phrase, the tool suggests substantive alternatives that meet the new requirements.

Here's what the Grüne Welle Greenwashing Scanner does

  • Automatic detection of sustainability claims on websites, in documents, press releases, and packaging designs
  • Cross-referencing with a knowledge database comprising official EU and German legal sources as well as relevant court rulings
  • Structured Risk Report with Prioritization of Action Items
  • Specific alternative wording for problematic claims
  • Suitable for use in marketing, corporate communications, product development, and the legal department

Positioning as a Strategic Differentiator

This development stems from the realization that, in many companies, the review of sustainability communications has so far been unsystematic or nonexistent. “Many companies are unaware that even well-intentioned statements such as ‘We operate sustainably’ or ‘We produce in a climate-neutral manner’ will pose a concrete risk of receiving a warning starting in the fall of 2026,” explains Frank Brodmerkel, founder and owner of Grüne Welle Kommunikation. “Our tool makes this risk visible—quickly, in a structured way, and with a clear focus on action.”

The Greenwashing Scanner complements the consulting services offered by Grüne Welle Kommunikation as a technical tool within the framework of a comprehensive communications audit. It is not a substitute for legal advice, but rather a communications strategy tool that empowers companies to develop their sustainability communications in a substantive, credible, and effective manner—from claims verification to media strategy.
